Unit 3: Observation on teacher in the classroom

3.1 Planning for teaching

First, Teacher must do lesson plan and need to understand contents of the lesson plan as well as the student’s backgrounds. The teacher should know the number of students, topic and can to teach and learning methods to match the content of lesson. Sometimes, they could use video for help to teaching.

3.2 Preparing lessons and materials

Teachers must study curriculum school and define aims and student learning out comes. Then, they think about structure of the session and timing of activities. They can make schedule form. Next, they have to decide on the best teaching and learning methods which match the content of the lesson. Then, they write a lesson plan. About materials depend on activity in the lesson such as in laboratory hour. The teacher must know what equipment to use for teaching.

3.3 Teaching in class

I had opportunity to observe ma’am Libertg Arnielyn D. Nabua. She is my cooperating teacher. I had one day for observation was 21 January 2019, chemistry subject, grade 10-piety and grade-10-prudence. And next day, I started the class. Her class began at.8.30 a.m. (Philippines time) until 9.30 a.m. She recommends me to her students, and I introduced myself in front of the class.
Ma’am Nabua always said “start to pray” to motivate students.

She started class by use question “what topic you learned yesterday”. She led students to discuss the topic which learn today. She opened the video about science laboratory because most students more interested in the video than lecture. She didn’t give homework for students. However, her Student must finish assignment on limit time. Sometimes, she stopped the video to explain about the laboratory.

After watching the video, she asked guide question and choose some student in the class writes answer on the board. She divided class into groups to do activity. She gave assignment and gave limit time for her students. Students able to ask them friends or teacher when they don’t understand questions. While students are doing the assignment, I walked around the room to help student such as explain to something which difficult to understand and observe her method guided students.

3.4 Measurement and Evaluation

My cooperating teacher estimates student achievement in her class by check score points from student assignments, tests, quizzes, and exams. Most of the points are focused on midterm examination and final examination. She uses the rubric table for normative. Each assessment holds a curtain weight in the overall grade, exams result around 50% of grade, while daily assignment are around 30% and 20% for an attribute and student responsibility in class. In her class. She writes short notes in the lesson plan about information or problem.

3.5 My impression to the teacher performances

I think she takes care her students.  In one of class have a lot of students (45 – 50 person/ class). She has 3 of the classes in her responsibility, but she can remember all of student’s name.
