Unit 6 Summary and Suggestions

6.1 Purposes of practicum

I joined the SEA Teacher project because I want to have experience of teaching abroad. I want to know how to manage the classroom which contents with diverse learners, learn instructional styles and develop my classroom management.

In the Philippines, my class had students more 45 people / one class. I always find method to teach them that help me to grow up and have a lot of new ideas to develop an instructional quality. Moreover, that is a good way for me to improve my English skill. Thank you this Project for opportunities to meet new friends and have good experiences.

6.2 Procedures of practicum

I used 7 E steps to write my lesson plan and teaching as follows:

6.2.1 Elicitation
First, I started warm up my lesson by greeting students in English occasionally I used Thai language. I used basic questions to motivate my students. Then, I led students to discuss the topic by used guide question. 

6.2.2 Engagement and Exploration
I showed concept map, pictures or video which present science experiment to my student and explained the topic.  And then, I asked some question to them. Next, I led students to explain about contents of topic and gave the example problem on the board for explained how to solve the problem.

6.2.3 Explanation
I used group process to teach my students in this step. I divided students into groups and gave problems to each group. They must finish their assignment on limit time. Associates will work together to solve the problem.

I observed their performances and recommended some group who did not understand the topic after they choose one of representative in group to present the intellection on the whiteboard. That method helps me to control my classroom easier, students who don’t understand the lesson can ask them friends in the group and solve the problem together.

In addition, they learn how to achieve their goal and maintained an effective working relationship.

6.2.4 Elaboration, Enrichment and Extension
I used questions to summarize the topic. Then, I gave extension work to my students.

6.3 Outcomes of practicum    

Outcomes of my instruction, my students passed the assessment according to criteria in rubric table and achieved good results. They able to describe the relationships between each vibration in Gas’s Law, calculate, and apply knowledge in the classroom to real life.

Outcomes of me, I learned method to communicate with other people as follows:

  • 1. Pronounce words
  • 2. New word including specific word.
  • 3. Request and reply questions from my students.
    Importantly, I can understand what people said and replied to them. In addition, I had more confidence and so proud of myself.

6.4 The challenges of practicum

In Thailand, I study Chemistry with Thai language and always use Thai language to teach my students in school. I so glad to join this project because this is a good opportunity for me to develop my English skill.

My challenge in Philippine is chemistry instruction in English. I am so excited and a little nervous during my instruction process. I hope my students will understand the lessons and get my point, so I always improve my English skill. Even if we have different accents, but good to learn together.

6.5 Overall impression

Teachers in school are very kind and some teacher encourages me. My mentor helps me to check my lesson plan and taught how to teach students. In my class had more student but I able to control them.  I am happy while teaching because my students good attend to the lesson, and they very active and have lots of energy. It is morale for me to practice and improved my English skills.

6.6 Suggestions for future improvement

First, you should believe in yourself and always positive thinking. If you always negative thinking when you teach in class, you cannot efficiently control your class. Importantly, don’t be afraid to make something which mistakes. You should learn and improve yourself.

Second, you should communicate with others for developing your English skill and open your mind to learn new things example, try to work in new environments and with several people.

Lastly, you should always prepare yourself for example, study way to write a lesson plan. You must know how to estimate students, method to write objectives of learning. Furthermore, you should study technology which can help you easy to manage your classroom because technology is great to encourage students.
